As Pet Dental Health month comes to a close, Diamond Pet Foods encourages you to protect your kitty’s teeth and mouth all year long!

Cats can be finicky or down right intolerant of you grooming them unless treats are involved! So, chances are that you have yet to attempt to clean your cat’s teeth on your own – and it’s likely that she is just fine with that arrangement! If you have tried this – successful or not – kudos to you, as it is no small task regardless of how tasty the feline tuna flavored toothpaste claims to be!

Have no fear though – there are plenty of ways to improve and maintain your cat’s dental health without attempting to pry her mouth open and brush! The easiest way is through her food. Look for formulas that include a vitamin A supplement as cats cannot convert inactive vitamin A (beta-carotene) to active vitamin A which promotes health tooth development. Also look for those that are designed to reduce plaque and tartar build-up. Diamond Pet Foods offers an extensive line of Dry Cat food Formulas with Vitamin A and other important supplements to maintain you feline’s dental health.

Of course another option is to have your vet perform a cleaning for your furry friend. You can discuss this option and your cat’s dental needs with your vet at your next visit.

Protect your feline Valentine’s Heart Health with Diamond Pet Foods all year long!

Although dogs and cats do not suffer from the same type of heart disease that is common in people, they are at risk for specific heart conditions. For the most part, feline heart disease will impact the entire heart, not just the valves. Unfortunately it can be difficult to detect one type of heart disease from another, if it is detected at all. Early heart disease may not have any obvious symptoms, so make sure your kitty sees her doctor at least once per year for a thorough checkup. Later in the disease process, symptoms may include fainting, rapid heart rate, bluish gums, weight loss or difficulty breathing. If any are present they could signify heart disease or another illness, prompting you to consult with your vet ASAP!

Though detecting heart disease can be difficult, preventing it through a healthy diet and exercise plan can be delicious and fun! Diamond Pet Foods cat food formulas contain all natural ingredients designed to support your furry valentine’s health!

You will find ingredients like taurine and potassium that support heart health in formulas like, Diamond Maintenance Formula for Cats, Diamond Naturals Kitten Formula, Diamond Naturals Indoor Cat Formula and Diamond Naturals Active Cat Formula!

Ice Melt and your dog – do you know the dangers?

In these last months of winter, many of us are combating icy conditions at home and around town. For our own safety ice and snow are treated with salt and other chemicals in order to keep our pathways clear. The problem comes when your pooch steps out into the slushy mix of chemicals and water, drenching her paws with potential irritants.

Chemicals and salt can cause your dog’s paws to become irritated and inflamed. What’s worse is that she may lick her paws or the slush, ingesting potentially dangerous chemicals or salt, resulting in digestive distress or poisoning. Antifreeze from your car is especially dangerous as it has a sweet smell ad taste, while having the potential to be fatal when ingested. The North Shore Animal League suggests placing booties on your pup’s paws, and using non toxic products, such as sand, cat litter or saw dust to melt ice or absorb antifreeze spills. These products will deter your pup from licking and will not irritate her tootsies!

If you do find yourself with a distressed dog that has walked through poor conditions or ingested antifreeze, contact you vet immediately to have her treated and avoid major complications associated with these products.

As always, Diamond Pet Foods encourages you to maintain your pup’s overall health with their dog food formulas, such as Diamond Premium Adult, Diamond Naturals Chicken & Rice, and Diamond Performance!
